Letter To The Independence Daily Reporter

Deceptive Questionnaire Addressed
10/24/06

Dear People of District 12,

Recently a flier from an organization called, “Kansas Voters Values” has been circulating in area churches. The organization claims that I refused to answer (RTA) key issue questions. The statement is deceptive and inaccurate. I did not refuse to answer the questions from this organization rather I chose not to answer!

As a candidate for public office I have received a lot of questionnaires in the mail. I must read each one and decide if the questions are equitable and paint an accurate picture of my stand on issues. Key to this decision is how the questions are worded and whether the organization asking the questions allowed comments to define my answer. Due to how one particular question was worded and due to the fact that the questionnaire did not allow an opportunity for the candidate to expound their stand on the issue I chose not to answer! This organization only allows two answers on the questionnaire; OPPOSE or SUPPORTS. This is an extremely one sided way to answer important questions and is not fair to an individual candidates stand on the issues. I am sure that there are many more candidates listed on the flier that chose not to answer for the same reasons.

I will now gladly answer the questions that this organization asked since I will have the opportunity here to clarify my position. It is the one thing that they did not afford me on their questionnaire.

If elected, would you raise taxes to balance the budget? I would resist raising taxes in all circumstances. I believe that we should always explore all options before being faced with any decision. I also believe that there are avenues of tax relief that can be implemented that would help lessen the peoples tax burden.

Would you ban all human cloning? I do not agree with human cloning however I do support stem cell research as long as the cells are harvested during live natural childbirth or during c-section procedures.

Should illegal immigrants be given driver's licenses? No they should not. The key word here is “Illegal.” Driving is a privilege not a right. If you are doing something illegal you forfeit your rights and your privileges. A US drivers license is reserved for US citizens that comply with the laws of the land.

Do you support concealed-carry for firearms? Yes, under certain conditions. Convicted felons nor non US citizens should never be allowed a concealed carry permit. Before permits are issued thorough background checks along with safety classes should be required. Yearly reauthorization of the permit should be required.

I hope this clarifies my position on these key issues. Please remember that anytime you see a flier from organizations like K.V.V. they may not be presenting a fair and unbiased opinion of the candidate. It is always best, if you have any questions, to contact the candidate directly and ask their stand on an issue.

I am always happy to talk about the issues and you may contact me at (620) 331-5843 to ask me any question concerning the issues or anything else. You may also visit my website at www.pluribusunum.net to view my news and blog comments about my campaign and key issues. I hope that this has helped you know better where I stand on certain issues.

"The elected official works for the people! You do not make promises to your boss which are beyond your power to keep and expect to hold your position."

Paid for by George for Representative - Debbie George Treasurer
