I AM TOTALLY
CONFUSED!
The explanation for this one will
be grand!
07/03/06
I must have missed something. In May of this year at a Legislative Luncheon
sponsored by the Independence Chamber of Commerce 12th District Representative
Frank Miller (R) Independence, made the following comment:
"I VOTED NO ON THE SCHOOL FINANCE PACKAGE BECAUSE I DO NOT BELIEVE THERE IS
ENOUGH MONEY TO SUPPORT IT FOR THREE YEARS. I ALSO VOTED NO ON GAMING. IF PEOPLE
WANT TO GO TO OKLAHOMA I SAY LET THEM GO!"
Yet, in November of 2005 Mr. Miller accepted a $500.00 donation from a Political
Action Committee of a Native American Tribe who operates a Casino, Bingo Parlor,
Truck Stop and a Gift Shop.
The Bingo Parlor ties promotions into coupon giveaways at the casino while the
truck stop services customers from the casino, reservation and surrounding
communities. The gift shop is located inside the Casino. Now Ill be the first
one to tell you that I support Indian Gaming having spent many enjoyable hours
playing in numerous casinos. I think that Indian gaming is a fantastic source of
revenues for the tribes. I am glad that they have it and are able to utilize it
effectively to the benefit of their people. It is however no secret that many
tribal leaders oppose open gaming in Kansas fearing that it would cut into the
tribes revenues. They actively lobby to keep their sovereignty over gaming in
the State.
So I cannot help but wonder why Mr. Miller who says that he is totally against
open gaming in the State of Kansas because it is against his beliefs. Also
telling Kansans to take their gaming money to Oklahoma and spend it there, well
I just cant help but wonder;
IF MR. MILLER FINDS THE IDEA OF GAMING SO ABHORRENT THEN WHY DID MR. MILLER
ACCEPT A CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION FROM A GROUP WHOSE #1 SOURCE OF REVENUE IS
GAMING?
I am sure that Mr. Miller or one of his supporters will come up with a justified
reason for his acceptance of this contribution. However, no matter what
reasoning they use to explain it I still find it a little more than hypocritical
to say the least. What price the lack of funding of education for our children
Mr. Miller!

boss which are beyond your power to keep and expect to hold your position."
