FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SHOW YOU CARE

If it's wrong it is up to you to fix it!

July 1, 2005

Recently a friend of mine, while discussing the fiascos that have taken place this legislative session in the House, stated; "I don't think anyone cares and if they do they feel as if there is nothing they can do about it." I know that I at least care and I know that I must care. I have to care when Speaker of the House Doug Mays (R) compares the protector of the Kansas Constitution, the State Supreme Court, to Saddam Hussein. And then holds the House hostage putting the future of our children's education at risk by demanding a Constitutional Amendment that would limit the Supreme Courts power to uphold our Constitution. In some circles this is called "Extortion!" I have to care when 2 of our local Representatives, Frank Miller (R) and Virgil Peck Jr. (R) support these outrageous actions while trying to lay the blame for it on the Governor, Democrat's and Moderate Republicans. Let's not forget that it was the Conservative Republicans that placed us in this situation in the first place by submitting an unconstitutional and inadequate bill that would have raised property Taxes and increased the States deficit.
I have to care when Representative Peck votes against our Service Men but for Health Insurance bills. Pretty transparent, one bill would have a negative impact on the insurance industry, while the other would be beneficial to the insurance industry of which Mr. Peck is a part of.
How can anyone not care when Representative Miller sends a Resolution to Congress asking them to turn your right to vote into a privilege or votes against extra funding for Telecommunications in Rural 9 1 1 areas stating that he does not want "Future Groups" to use the system to control the mind set of the American public. Say what?
My husband is a small business owner and I need to care when Representative Miller was one of only 21 House members who voted against funding to expand affordable health coverage access to Kansas small businesses and their employees.
I believe that I am not the only one that cares about these issues and so many more that could not be listed here due to size constraints. This I do know, we have the power to act and change things by letting our voices be heard and our votes be counted. Show my friend that people do indeed care!
