FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
An Informed Opinion
A response to the two attacks on the credibility of James A. George by
Republican allies of Representatives Frank Miller and Virgil Peck Jr.
May 10th, 2005 - NOTE: Both letters addressed here
appeared in the Independence Daily Reporter and the Coffeyville Journal and did
not address directly the issue I had brought up in my 04/17/05 "Letter to the
Editor." Instead they both stated that "I could not know anything about the
issues or how the Legislature works by just observing from the gallery." Below
is my response , which was sent out to every Newspaper in Districts 11 and 12,
to the two individuals that attacked my right to voice my opinion.
It has always been my belief that before one expresses an opinion that it
should be an informed opinion. My opinion on the so called "School Finance Bill"
and on the "Right to Vote Resolution" were not made lightly and were not made
without first doing a lot of research, and a lot of question asking. The only
error that I made in my previous letter to the Editor was a typo regarding the
amount of the Property Tax increase, which I have no problem correcting now. It
should have read $422,500,000! Not quite as much as the $455,000,000 I had
originally stated but a hefty increase non the less.
My opinions were not just based on "sitting in the gallery" and observing. Over
the past year I have become very involved with what goes on within our State
government and I have spent a lot of time at the Capital. Though I am not
involved in "all the workings of our Representatives" I have become very
involved in all the workings of our State Government! As American Citizens and
as Kansan's who live in and love this State we should all be concerned with what
goes on within our Government. We need to hold our Representatives accountable!
To say that you are against any Bill that increases taxes is very different from
voting on bills that increase taxes. No matter how anyone tries to justify it,
HB 2247 is exactly what I stated.... "HB2247 would create the largest Property
Tax increase in State history not to mention the unconstitutionally of the
bill." It is a quick fix and not the solution to the problem.
One of the many reasons that I have become so involved is I came to realize, in
November 2004, that there is a difference between winning the majority of the
vote and being the only Candidate on the ballot. I urge everyone who cares about
Kansas to become involved in some way. Whether you become involved in Politics,
charity work, volunteering, Civic affairs/organizations or Religious activities,
give something back. It is not enough to just sit on the sidelines and complain,
you have to get involved and you have to contribute if you wish to make a
difference. I am not on the sidelines and I am involved and I stand 100% behind
the statements that I have made because they were "Informed Opinions!"
